Here’s the slideshow from our show last week. We had a lot of fun learning about famous Americans!
Thank you to all the parents who helped with the party and sent in games and treats. We had a blast! Here are a few pics from the party.
We began learning about place value in math. The kids counted over 1,000 straws by bundling them into groups of 10s, 100s, and 1,000. They are building up to being able to add and subtract within 1000. We've been focusing on change in reading. We learned how animals, plants, and people adapt to changing seasons. We also worked on main ideas and details and subjects and verbs. We learned about how water forms canyons in science. We created our own model and observed how our "landform" changed with "rainstorms." We had a visit from the Fox Lake Fire Department, too. Here are a few pics from our week.
We've had a great start to the year! Today we learned about how water moves with a fun, hands on project. The kids made mountains and sprayed them, I mean created a rainstorm on them to see how water flows and rivers are made. In reading, we are focusing on change. We amalyzed art that depicts the changing seasons and practiced reading fluency with the poem "Weather." Here are a few pictures from this week.
Wow, March flew by! We've been working hard learning money, reading about Amelia Earhart, lions, and leprechauns. In science, we've been diving in deeper with the properties of matter. We learned how solids (candy) can become liquids with heat. We also explored which materials were insulators and conductors. We had our fun PBIS assembly where we won cool prizes and played "Are You Smarter Than Your Teacher?" (Of course they are!) Have a super fun , relaxing spring break!
We've had a fun couple of days in second grade! On Thursday, we enjoyed listening to a storyteller perform The Lorax and a couple of folktales. Susan from the Lake County Farm Bureau came by to teach is about Green Eggs and Ham. We learned about chickens, eggs, pigs, and goats. Today we began learning about the properties of matter. The kids designed and made hats to protect themselves from the hot sun while learning about the properties of the materials we used. Here are a few pics from the past couple of days. We had a super fun Valentine's Day party! Thank you to the parents who planned fun games, treats, and snacks. We played fun games in the pod, stacked candy hearts, unwrapped kisses with gloves (minute to win it) decorated cookies, made a craft, and gobbled up a healthy treat. We had so much fun putting on our Hooray for tthe USA show last week! The kids worked so hard learning the songs, working on the posters, and learning about famous Americans in history. We had a fun last week before break! My middle son, Sam who's home from college, helped out with a few projects. We read and wrote about polar bears, made gifts for you, built shelves for elves, and enjoyed a last day before break with hot chocolate centers and some holiday movies and popcorn in the afternoon. I want to thank you for all your support the first half of this year. I hope you all enjoy the time with your families and friends the next couple of weeks. We had fun designing and building tables large enough to hold a Thanksgiving feast. We definitely learned how important team work is in pulling together our designs.
